Our client requested an all black frame in which to mount their limited edition Ben Nicholson print ‘Head c1933‘. We chose a black stained oak finish with matt lacquer and black mount and spacers.
The artwork had previously been mounted on a non acid-free mount card and with the print touching the non UV blocking glass – the holy trinity of problematic picture framing methods. Using conservation friendly techniques and materials we were able to flatten the wrinkles, and float mount the artwork behind UV safe glass, putting a halt to deterioration and preserving the print for years to come.
The original linocut is part of the Kettles Yard collection and represents a highly abstract stage of the artist’s career for which he is most famous.
