Anatomy of a Tray Frame

The following examples illustrate the different methods for presenting artworks within tray frames.

 

Example 1 – Canvas Stretcher

Black Tray frame with 10mm face

In this example a canvas artwork is presented in a black tulip tray frame, the canvas depth is 20mm and the tray frame’s internal depth is 23mm allowing the artwork to be setback by 3mm.

Material and Finish: Black Tulip

Front Face: 10mm

Internal Depth: 23mm

Margin: 8mm

Example 2 – Mounted Photography

In this example a photographic image is mounted to a board and then attached to a spacer to give it a sense of depth in the tray frame.  The artwork and the board it is mounted to is 3mm, and the spacer is 12mm.  The frame’s internal depth is 20mm to allow the artwork to be set back by 5mm.

Material and Finish: N/A

Front Face: 6mm

Internal Depth: 20mm

Margin: 5mm
